"There will always be plenty of flour and oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!" 1 Kings 17:14
This is referring to the story of a widow living in Zerepath during a drought. When the prophet, Elijah meets her at the gates of the village, she was gathering sticks to cook her last meal for her and her son and thought she would then die. Elijah asks her to cook him a loaf of bread FIRST. Ouch! It is one thing to share when we have had our fill or there is plenty to go around, but share when it means there may be none left for me and my family? As an act of obedience, she made the loaf for the prophet first and the scripture says she, Elijah, and her son continued to eat from her supply of flour and oil for many days.
Since our country has been in the recession all of our supporters have been affected and many have completely stopped giving. We are praying that God will continue to supply all of our needs. We do not want to even think about the heartache to start turning away the faces of hungry children who come to eat nor do we want to have to return to the government any of the precious ones that God has placed in our care and we have all grown to love so much.
We are reaching into the flour and oil everyday and praying that there will always be enough for tomorrow. January 2010 is just around the corner and we desperately need sponsors for the children and girls. Perhaps you will consider a monthly sponsorship. You can do partial sponsorships as well.
Be Blessed and may there always be plenty in your containers even in your season of drought. Penny Compton
